The Medical Centre (Sanatorium) is situated just outside the main school gates on Ashton Road and is run by our Senior Sister, Judith Lea, and her team of three fully qualified Registered Nurses. The Centre is supervised by the School’s Medical Officer, Dr. Paul Gardner, from the Mytton Oak Medical Practice: www.myttonoakmedpractice.co.uk
All new boarding pupils undergo a medical examination before becoming registered through us with the Mytton Oak practice. Dr. Gardner and his practice operate under the guidelines set out by MOSA – the Medical Officers of Schools Association: www.mosa.org.uk
We hold a doctor’s surgery every weekday during term time from 8am and concurrently run a nurse-led triage clinic. It is therefore important that pupils wishing to see the doctor should be at the Centre by 8am.
The Centre is staffed around the clock and all pupils are welcome to drop in for advice and management of illness and injury. We also offer counselling, routine and travel vaccinations, as well as health education and promotion. We have twelve beds within the centre where we can monitor pupils more closely and they may remain here for overnight stays if necessary.
A physiotherapist visits the Medical Centre weekly, to see any pupils who have been referred by the doctor.
The School dentist is Richard Gatenby of Hollings & Partners, and he provides any emergency care – and the fitting of gum shields - needed during term time. He will perform a dental check if required but a charge will be made. All pupils are expected to be registered with a dental practitioner at home and to receive regular dental care during the holidays. www.hdental.co.uk
