Meet the Housemistress
Sara Hankin joined the Shrewsbury staff in 1990, before which she worked in marketing at Laura Ashley and sold houses in France.  She teaches French (and sometimes Russian), and has spent spells in charge of the Ashton Theatre, the Challenge of Management Conference, PSHE, the Listening Team, and as  Sixth Form Registrar.  She has also choreographed many school musicals, working as part of a highly successful team on tours to the Edinburgh Fringe and Covent Garden.  In 2002 she was appointed as Housemaster of Port Hill Day House, which she ran for almost five years. Sara was part of the steering group for the introduction of Shrewsbury’s co-educational Sixth Form, and in 2009 she became the first girls’ Housemistress. She has also worked closely with Kait Weston in the run-up to the opening of the second girls’ house, Emma Darwin Hall, in September 2011.

Sara is married to Peter, a writer and artist, and has two sons - Joe (Rb 1997-2002), and Tom (SH 1999-2004). Her interests are France and gourmet cookery. 

In September 2012, Sara takes up the new position of Deputy Head (Academic Staffing).  Anna Peak, currently Head of Geography at Loretto School, has been appointed as her successor in Mary Sidney Hall.  Please see the New Housemistress page for more information.
