Ways of Giving

It is important that you consider your options to ensure that the method of giving to Shrewsbury you choose is best for you and the School.

Under the Gift Aid scheme, Shrewsbury School Foundation can claim an additional 25% from HMRC on eligible donations. Higher rate tax payers can also claim back the difference between higher and basic rate tax on the value of their gift including Gift Aid.

For example if you make a Gift Aid declaration and donate £100, the value of your donation to the Shrewsbury School Foundation is £125.  A higher rate tax payer can claim back 25% (the difference between the basic and higher rate of tax) of this £125 for themselves via their Self Assessment tax return. Therefore a gift with a total value to the Shrewsbury School Foundation of £125 will cost a higher rate tax payer £68.75.

To be eligible for Gift Aid you must pay an amount in income or capital gains tax that is at least equivalent to the amount that all charities you donate to will claim on your donations during the tax year.
