The Shrewsbury School Parents' Association (SSPA) is very much looking forward to welcoming current parents and Old Salopians to its inaugural black-tie Easter Ball on Friday 28th March 2014. Its theme this year, in keeping with the SSPA's school-wide international focus for 2014, is ‘The Ancient World of Siam’, and attendees can look forward to a unique evening of exotic food, music, dancing and internationally acclaimed entertainment. Sponsored Sports ‘All-Nighter’ in aid of Medic Malawi, Friday 14th February
In a bid to raise funds for Medic Malawi and the Shrewsbury School Eye Clinic, a group of 32 students and several members of staff will be staging an all-night sponsored sports event on Friday 14th February. Steve Fox, Geography Master and Rowing Coach at the School, who has just celebrated his 50th birthday, will be joining the group and attempting to complete a marathon on an ergo in under three hours. Please note that the concert Zimbe! - Celebrating the Songs of Africa in the Alington Hall on Sunday 9th February is now SOLD OUT. There are some other wonderful concerts coming up in the next few weeks - in Shrewsbury and in London. (Full details are included in the list of Forthcoming Events below.) They include a Celebrity Recital with pianist Llyr Williams on Saturday 1st March in the Alington Hall. Llyr has performed with orchestras around the world, including the BBC Philharmonic, the London Philharmonic, the London Symphony Orchestra and the London Mozart Players. He appears regularly at the BBC Proms and at the Edinburgh Festival.
The following weekend, on Sunday 9th March, the School's Symphony, String and Wind Orchestras and Brass Ensembles will be performing in the Cadogan Hall in London at 6.30pm. It features a wonderful proframme of music and promises to be a gala occasion. Please note that we will also be running 'Supporters’ Coaches' from Shrewsbury for £25 per person, which includes a ticket to the concert. They will leave at 9.00am and return after the concert.
