St Cecilia Concerts - a feast of music to enjoy this weekend
In celebration of the life and times of Old Salopian Charles Burney (1726-1814), Shrewsbury School musicians (some 300 in all) will be performing a glorious feast of music this weekend. Parents and friends are very warmly invited to come and enjoy music by some of the giants of Burney’s time, including Handel, Mozart, Beethoven and Schubert. The St Cecilia Concerts will take place on both Saturday and Sunday evenings at 7.30pm in the Alington Hall. Tickets are free and wine and soft drinks will be served during the interval. Full details are included under ‘Forthcoming Events’ below.

At midday on Sunday, Michael Schützer-Weissman is giving an illustrated talk on Charles Burney himself. Henrike Legner will be helping illustrate the talk by singing some lovely songs by Haydn and Thomas Arne, the composer of Rule Britannia, who took Burney under his wing in London as a young composer and performer. Coffee will be available in the Maidment Building, where the talk is taking place, from 11.30 a.m.
