We are thrilled to welcome back the extremely talented pianist and Old Salopian Galin Ganchev to Shrewsbury School after his incredibly successful recital last spring.
Raised in a musical family in Bulgaria, Galin has played piano since the age of six. He received an invitation to study with the internationally acclaimed Anglo-Italian pianist Peter Bradley-Fulgoni at the Music Department at Shrewsbury School, and in February 2010 travelled to the United Kingdom and auditioned successfully for a Music Scholarship, which he took up in September 2010.
"When I sit at the piano I immediately feel at one with it, and such a feeling of ‘unity’ with the instrument cannot be explained by anything other than the language of music itself.”
Galin has appeared in several competitions and has taken part in more than 70 concerts in the United Kingdom, Bulgaria and Italy, playing in renowned venues such as the Wigmore Hall, Holywell Room, Warehouse, Machynlleth Tabernacle, Varna State Opera House and the Varna Festival and Congress Centre. He has also collaborated with the Vidin Philharmonic, Shrewsbury School, Shropshire Philharmonic and Varna Philharmonic Orchestras, and his repertoire includes more than 100 pieces of music – most of which are solo piano and chamber works.
Galin is currently a scholarship student at the Royal Academy of Music, where he studies piano with Ian Fountain and piano accompaniment with Michael Dussek. He has taken part in masterclasses with internationally renowned musicians such as Michael Roll, Yevgeny Sudbin, Tatiana Sarkissova and Michael Foyle.
Please join us as we celebrate a truly outstanding young musician.
