Shrewsbury School

10 years of girls at Shrewsbury

80 Girls come back to celebrate 10 years of Co-Education

Believe it or not there have now been girls at Shrewsbury School for 10 years!
To celebrate the occasion approximately 80 OS girls returned to the School for a sunny autumnal afternoon of sport (against current girls) - hockey, rowing, and fives, followed by drinks and a delicious buffet dinner in Mary Sidney Hall. The Hall was decorated with some floral bunting, balloons in the house colours and flowers on the tables to match. Also to the delight of the girls, set at each place were small tins of lip salve topped with the School crest.
It was a pleasure to welcome back some staff too, particularly Sara Hankin (Shrewsbury's first Housemistress) who gave an amusing and inspiring speech full of memories of life at Mary Sidney Hall.
After dinner and the cutting of the celebration cake, Felicity Davies (MSH 2008-10) Joint Chair of the Young OS committee regaled everyone with reminiscences about the hilarious times that were enjoyed by the girls with Sara Hankin as their House Mistress.
The event was judged a great success, so much so that several of the girls asked if we could organise one every year! More likely is an afternoon of sports fixtures against the School next year followed by supper and drinks in Quod for all OS present (boys and girls).
