The 150th Bumping Races – Day 2

Monday 2 July 2018

Another perfect day of weather, with a gentle tail wind that made for some excellent racing.

Four crews are one bump away from claiming ‘blades’: School House I, Oldham’s II, Mary Sidney I and Emma Darwin II.

Radbrook claimed bungline 1 in both Division 2 and Division 3.

The Grove I remain the highest placed girls’ house in 7th, but Mary Sidney I will be hot on their heels tomorrow starting 8th. The same is true in Division 3, where The Grove II will start 5th and Mary Sidney II will start 6th.

In Division 1, there was a titanic battle between Churchill’s I, Rigg’s I and Oldham’s I with some excellent coxing on display from all three crews. In the end, Oldham’s bumped Rigg’s for the right to race Churchill’s for the Head of the River Trophy. Either Churchill’s will claim a third Headship in a row for the first time in their history, or Oldham’s will take the top prize for the first time since 2004.
