Grace Enjoys Outstanding Summer of Tennis Success

Grace T (V, MSH) has enjoyed an outstanding summer of tennis, competing at Wimbledon, winning three Shropshire County Championship titles and achieving a series of impressive results at regional tournaments.

Her summer began in June when she won the Shropshire county final of the Play Your Way to Wimbledon competition, earning the opportunity to represent the county at the U14 Girls National Finals at Wimbledon.

Competing against 47 players from across the country on Wimbledon’s grass courts, Grace progressed to the last 16 of the tournament.

Grace said:

“Playing at Wimbledon alongside 47 other talented U14 girls was such a privilege. I was so proud to represent Shropshire and to reach the last 16 players of the Play Your Way to Wimbledon national finals.

“Competing on the Aorangi courts, where the professionals warm up, and eating in the Players’ Restaurant were unforgettable experiences.”

Grace continued her strong form throughout the summer, winning the U18 Grade 4 tournament at Abingdon in Oxfordshire before reaching the finals of both the U14 and U16 Grade 3 tournaments at Carisbrooke in Leicester. On each occasion, she defeated the top seed in the semi-final before finishing as runner-up.

She then rounded off August with a remarkable clean sweep at the Shropshire County Championships, becoming U14 Girls Singles Champion, U14 Mixed Doubles Champion and U14 Girls Doubles Champion.

The doubles victory was made particularly special as Grace claimed the title alongside her younger sister, Izzy.

Grace added:

“I followed Wimbledon with a strong run at the Carisbrooke Grade 3 tournament, reaching both the U14 and U16 singles finals, and then at the end of August had a clean sweep of all the U14 titles at the Shropshire County Championships, including the U14 girls’ doubles with my younger sister.

“I am looking forward to continuing my tennis journey at Shrewsbury.”

Grace has also enjoyed success closer to home, reaching the final of the Shrewsbury Lawn Tennis Club Championships, which takes place tomorrow, Saturday 12 September.

Congratulations to Grace on an exceptional summer of tennis and we wish her the very best for the final.
