Shrewsbury pupil secures fully funded British Army scholarship

Upper Sixth pupil Eric H (R) has secured a fully funded scholarship with the British Army after successfully completing its demanding officer selection process.
Eric’s interest in a career in the Armed Forces began at Shrewsbury’s Careers Fair, where a conversation with Army Liaison Officers encouraged him to explore the opportunities available.
He said: “At the Shrewsbury School Careers Fair, I met the Army Liaison Officers, who inspired me to look into a career in the Forces. They talked me through each step of the application process during meetings throughout the year.”
Eric went on to complete a series of stages, including an initial interview and medical examination, before attending a three-day assessment at the Army Officer Selection Board (AOSB) in Westbury.
The assessment involved examinations, interviews and physical tests, alongside both leadership and team challenges.
Eric said: “It was challenging, but you’re never quite sure what they are looking for, so you have to be yourself and do the best you can.
“The whole application process was seamless and professional, aided by the excellent guidance I received at Shrewsbury. I am very honoured to have gained a place with the British Army and hope I can be a valuable asset to them in the future.”
A principle Eric shared during his Army interview sums up his approach to the process: “The plan is nothing, the planning is everything.”
