Generations of Old Salopians gather for OS Day 2026

Old Salopian Day is an opportunity to reminisce, celebrate Shrewsbury’s rich history, and see and hear about all the latest developments at School.
The weekend began on Friday evening with a Private View of the Old Salopian Art Exhibition which this year featured the work of Georgina Walton (MSH 2008-10) Georgina was the first girl to be awarded an art scholarship to Shrewsbury. She is now a successful professional artist, and the show was a homecoming to the place where her talent was nurtured.

This year families were particularly encouraged to attend with some new activities for children. Under 11s enthusiastically joined in a taster session on the new padel courts and a dance session on the sprung floor of the dance studio, and Georgina organised a colourful painting activity alongside her work in the Art School.

92-year-old David Gee was in good form and attended the lunch. At the other end of the scale 10-month old Henry Bradshaw was there with his parents Charlotte and Daniel who met at School in 2008, the first year that girls were admitted to Shrewsbury. Will and Francesca Scott-Moncrief who also met in the sixth form came along with their family too.
The theme of Shrewsbury bringing couples together continued with a warm and personal speech at lunchtime from Andy Pollock (I 1971-74) the Salopian Club President for 2026, Andy spoke of the deep impact the School has had on his life, not least because he met his wife Sally who was at Shrewsbury High School at Tudor Court.
Headmaster Leo Winkley, Chairman of the Salopian Club Miles Preston (Db 1963-68), President of the Salopian Club Andy Pollock (I 1971-74)
There were all the usual attractions including a talk by Robin Brooke-Smith (S 1961-66) about one of the Taylor Library’s treasures, a 1534 edition of the Tyndale Bible, a concert by the Sixth Form Music Scholars and three Old Salopian Football Club v School football fixtures. The OS girls hockey team took on current pupils on the Radbrook Astro and the Headmaster gave an update on the School and chatted with the audience in the Moser Library.
On Sunday a few Old Salopians attended chapel for the new entrants’ service. It gives a great sense of continuity to have the Old Salopians around at the end of Foundation Fortnight when we celebrate the newest members of the School.
The Alex Wilson Football Match was also played on Senior on Sunday. The game commemorates OS Alex Wilson who sadly died shortly after he left Shrewsbury but whose memory lives on through the scholarship his family set up in his name.
Thanks to everyone who makes the day possibly particularly the catering and events team who lay on endless delicious food and cheerful service throughout the weekend.
