Warwickshire Success for Salopians Past and Present

Shrewsbury pupils have been recognised at Warwickshire County Cricket Club’s recent pathway awards evening, continuing a long-standing and successful partnership between the School and the Club.

Gurjeevan, Bryan and Yash all received awards on the night, with Yash named U13 Players’ Player of the Year. All three pupils also collected a Match Impact Award in recognition of their performances during the season.

Their success comes at an especially memorable time for Warwickshire, with Old Salopian Ed Barnard recently captaining the Club to the County Championship title.

Ed lifted the trophy at Edgbaston after Warwickshire defeated Leicestershire to secure first place, fulfilling a childhood ambition shared by many young cricketers.

He played a significant role throughout the campaign, taking 30 wickets at an average of 24 and scoring 679 runs at an average of 38, alongside leading the side as captain.

There was a fitting Shrewsbury connection to the celebrations, with Third Former Ethan present at Edgbaston following Warwickshire’s title victory. A photograph of the pair captured a special moment between a current Salopian and an Old Salopian enjoying success at different stages of their cricketing journeys.

Shrewsbury’s relationship with Warwickshire CCC has developed over many years, providing talented young players with opportunities to progress within the county pathway while continuing their cricket at School.

With current pupils already making their mark and Ed lifting one of the most prestigious trophies in the domestic game, recent weeks have provided plenty for both Shrewsbury and Warwickshire to celebrate.
