Appointment of Senior Deputy Head

Thursday 25 November 2021

Mr Kevin Brennan will join Shrewsbury School as our Senior Deputy Head from 1st August 2022.

Mr Brennan is currently Assistant Head of Senior School and Director of Boarding at The Scots College in Sydney, Australia. As well as leading on boarding, he is charge of student health and wellbeing and the college’s Indigenous Education Programme. In this role he is Deputy to the Head of Senior School, a campus comprising 1,250 pupils.

Before moving to Sydney, Mr Brennan was a boarding Housemaster at Wellington College, where he was also Head of IB Sports Science and Director of Rugby (2008-2016). Prior to that, he taught at Abingdon School and was a professional rugby player. He studied for an MSc at Oxford University, where he was a recipient of the Major Stanley Scholarship for sporting and academic excellence and captained the Oxford Blues rugby team. He has a PGCE from Loughborough University and a Certificate in School Management and Leadership from the Harvard Graduate School of Education.

Mr Brennan said: “I feel privileged and honoured to be joining Shrewsbury School as your next Senior Deputy Head. The school’s reputation speaks for itself, and I am incredibly excited to be working with Mr Leo Winkley, all staff, parents, and most importantly the pupils of Shrewsbury School in 2022. My wife Sian and our three children could not be happier to be returning home to the UK to join such a special community - we cannot wait to meet everyone.”

The Headmaster, Mr Leo Winkley, commented: “With his deep commitment to whole person boarding education, high-performance background and strong team ethic, I am delighted that Kevin will be joining Shrewsbury School as Senior Deputy Head. He has exceptional leadership qualities and will be a valuable addition to the team as we deliver the Strategic Plan 2030. We all look forward to giving Kevin and his family the warmest welcome to the Shrewsbury School community."

Mr Brennan will succeed Mr Peter Middleton as he moves on to become Headmaster of Oswestry School.
