Athletics: Mason Trophy

Monday 17 June 2019

Despite competing in torrential rain, the Salopian athletes representing Shropshire at the Mason Trophy (the Regional Athletics Finals) in Birmingham last Saturday were on top form.

A record number of seven Salopian athletes competed. (Nine were selected but not all could attend.)

Ben Weston (R) had a fantastic run at his first Mason Trophy coming third in a PB of 4.32.56 in the 1500m. He still has another year completing at this age group!

Kitty Scholes-Pryce (M) finished third in her 75m Hurdles heat in a flawless run, finishing overall in 9th with 12.33. This weekend she is competing in the Regional Finals Combined Events: County Schools Junior Girls Combined Events Champion. Good luck!

Harrison Cutler (R) had another good run in the 1500m and another PB of 4.30.41 to finish 17th.

Fadi Masri-Kayalif (SH) had a solid afternoon in the high jump, coming 2nd and taking the silver medal with a jump of 1.75m.

Francesca Harris (EDH) came fifth in the Inter Girls 1500m - a strong performance in a competitive field and in the midst of sitting her GCSEs.

In the 1500m steeplechase Tom Jackson (R) finished 4th in a time of 4.49.03 and Ed Forde-Johnston (O) finished 13th in 5.48.27. (They are pictured respectively right and left below.)

Tom has now been selected to represent Shropshire at the English Schools Track and Field Championships in Birmingham on the 12th/13th July – a major achievement. He will be competing in the 1500m steeplechase.
