Berkhamsted Girls' Fives Festival

Friday 23 January 2015

On Tuesday 20th January, eight Third Form girls travelled to Berkhamsted to get a taste of their first competitive Fives. Playing in the Junior Girls’ Fives Festival first and then the Senior Festival, the Shrewsbury pairs proved to be strong competition for all age groups.

Following on from last year’s inaugural Berkhamsted Festival which involved just three schools, this year 40 girls ranging in age from 10 to 18 from five schools gathered at Berkhamsted for an afternoon of fun Fives.  The other schools represented were Aldenham, Berkhamsted both Senior and Prep, Oakham and Stowe.

After a number of comfortable wins in the Junior Festival, Shrewsbury’s best pairs found that they could compete well with the senior girls from Berkhamsted and Stowe. Our 1st pair (Nina Lange & Tilly Reynolds) played with great athleticism and power on overcoming Berkhamsted 1st pair 12-4. They were easily the best pair on show.

Our 2nd pair (Katie Oswald & Emma Graham) & 3rd pair (Lizzie Ware & Phoebe Wasdell) played some exciting Fives and developed well during the day by beating all junior pairs and some seniors.

The 4th pairing of Libby Hedges & Sophia Dixon played impressively, losing their final match against Stowe 1st pair 12-8.

There are another six U14 & U15 girls now playing Fives regularly and all will be aiming to make an impression this season.
