Birmingham Dinner - NEW VENUE - Copt Heath Golf Club

Monday 25 March 2019

Copt Heath Golf Club dinner passes muster!

Sad though we were to leave our traditional venue at the St Paul’s Club in the centre of Birmingham, the Copt Heath Golf Club proved a more than adequate substitute. After a number of OSGS members had taken advantage of playing on the course during the afternoon, just under 40 Old Salopians (including the President, Paul Nichols (S 66-71)) assembled for a first class dinner, followed by speeches from the Headmaster and Peter Fanning who paid fitting tribute to John Moore, the School’s outgoing Director of Music, for his extraordinary contribution to both the School and the Salopian Club.

The evening concluded with songs from Henry Southern (G 03-08) and Chris Jamieson (G 04-09) along with current pupil, Dom Sullivan (I), to the accompaniment of John Moore himself. Those who may have had doubts about an out of town venue can be re-assured; thanks to the excellent organisation of Richard Woodgate (Rt 54-59) and his Birmingham Committee, this particular evening must rank as one of the best Birmingham dinners yet.
