Shrewsbury School

British Youth Fencing Championships

Monday 14 May 2018

Six Shrewsbury School fencers spent Coach Weekend at the English Institute of Sport in Sheffield, representing the West Midlands in the British Youth Championships

The event brings together the top young fencers in the country in épée, sabre and foil, all of whom have won through their regional qualifiers.

In the under-18 boys' épée event, James Hinwood finished a creditable 10th, with Will Holcroft 13th and Ben Cowley 27th from a field of 43 fencers.

The under-18 boys sabre event saw Archie Free finish 35th in a very competitive field of sabreurs.

Suky OuYang finished 9th in the under-18 girls' sabre and was unlucky not to reach the quarter-finals.

She also represented the region in the under-18 girls' foil, finishing in 23rd place.

Jude Huffer was sadly way off-form, finishing 58th in the under-16 boys' foil.
