The Music Department has recently acquired, on temporary loan, a beautiful verdigris bronze bust of Sir George Martin, The Beatles’ producer.
Sculpted by local artist Jane Robbins, the bust of Sir George is currently opposite that of Ted Maidment, in the foyer of the Maidment Building. Jane's previous sculptures include Sir Paul McCartney (Jane's cousin), a memorial of Linda McCartney, Fred Dibnah, and one of Percy Thrower in The Dingle, just the other side of The Severn from The Schools. Jane has also sculpted a public miners' memorial.
Please see Jane's website for more information about her work.
Interestingly, Sir George and our own Director of Music, John Moore, were both taught by the legendary piano teacher Sidney Harrison, who was the first to give public piano lessons on TV, in the early days of British broadcasting.
Do please take the chance to admire this stunning piece of work while it’s here.
