A memorable night in an elegant location

Over a dozen Old Salopians played with the School Orchestra on Sunday 10th March and many more joined parents and supporters in the auditorium of the Cadogan Hall to witness John Moore’s final London concert as Director of Music. Henry Kennedy (I 09-14) conducted the initial piece, Shostakovitch’s Festive Overture opus 96, with his usual flare, while other pieces included two outstanding performances by current pupils, Matthew Poon and Henri Cramsie, of Bruch’s Violin Concerto No 1 and Bellini’s Concerto for Oboe respectively.

An evening of extraordinary music finished with Beethoven’s Symphony No 1 and a highly energetic rendering of Danzon No2 by Marquez, following which John Moore was thanked by Henry Southern (G 03-08) on behalf of all Old Salopians for the priceless legacy he has bequeathed to us all.
