On Saturday, several members of the Royal Shrewsbury School Hunt competed for Shropshire in the national final of the English Schools’ Cross-Country Championships in Liverpool.
There were some excellent performances. In the Intermediate Boys, Will Singleton placed 50th, Harrison Cutler 78th, Brad Keay 236th and Tim Strebel 274th, helping Shropshire achieve a team position of 41st.
In the Senior Boys, Sam Western placed 84th in a very strong run, ahead of Max Green in 181st, Will Owen in 236th and Paddy Barlow in 239th. This gave Shropshire a team position of 29th.
In the Senior Girls, our Huntswoman Lillian Wilcox (EDH) placed 194th and Laura Elliott (G) came 228th.
It was great to see so much RSSH representation at this, the most prestigious schools’ cross-country event in the country, especially given that it fell on Coach Weekend. Well done to everyone who competed.
The Hunt was also well-represented at the UK Inter-Counties in Loughborough, another prestigious event involving runners from across the country.
In extremely muddy conditions, Will Singleton achieved an astonishing 19th place in the U15 race, with Brad Keay not far behind in 108th and Tim Strebel in 228th.
In the U17 race, Harrison Cutler placed 114th and Will Owen managed 192nd.
In the senior race, Max Green finished 127th and Paddy Barlow came 134th.
Meanwhile, we took three teams to the Midlands League fixture on the north shore of Rutland Water, where Sam Western achieved the individual win in the Senior Boys, and the Juniors managed the team win, with four placing inside the top 11. Ben Weston came 2nd, Hamish Griffiths 4th, Massimo Wyatt 7th and George Hankins 11th.
