Having spent three weeks during December in the UAE with a 15-man England U19 squad competing in a triangular series against the UAE and Pakistan U19 teams, Ed has been waiting nervously for the ECB to confirm whether or not he had made the cut for the World Cup itself.
“I was really happy and relieved when I found out because they had an initial 30-man squad and then they cut it down,” he said. “I was fairly confident having been on the tour before Christmas, so I was hoping. But you never know… I had my fingers crossed.”
The team will set off for Dubai on 31st January and will play three practice matches before beginning the World Cup campaign on 14th February with group matches against the UAE, Sri Lanka and New Zealand.
The ECB also announced this week that Old Salopian Jimmy Taylor (R 2003-08)has been included in England’s provisional 30-man squad for the ICC World Twenty20, which takes place in March.
