Girls’ Fives: Novice pair reach National U14 Semi-Finals

Friday 9 February 2018

The U14 Girls represented the Shrewsbury in the EFA Schools’ National Fives Championships with real pride this week and ensured that our very strong reputation and standing in the game was upheld on the national scene.

The headline act was Issy Morris and Lisette Barden, who played strongly throughout, came first in their qualifying group and only just lost out to a good Highgate 1st pair in a very close semi-final, 13-14 and 9-11. For a novice pair it was an outstanding result, as all the other semi-finalists had played for three years.

Issy Morris & Lisette Barden lost 13-14 &  9-11 to Highgate 1 in the National U14 Semi-Final.

Harriet Shuker & Lauren Taylor also won their group and went on to lose in the last 16.

Pair 3 Phoebe Watkins and Issy Hatton & Pair 4 Ashleigh Pegge & Annie Cox won through their group and round two before falling at the last 16 stage.

Pair 5 Eibhilin Moores & Lottie Waterhouse got knocked out of the main event but went on to play a number of plate matches and had a great win against Ipswich in their last match.

On the day following their fine performances on the fives courts of Eton College, Issy Morris, Lisette Barden and Harriet Shuker were in action in the Cricket Centre of Shrewsbury School on debut with the U15 girls' cricket team. The team won the Lady Taverners Indoor Cricket U15 Area Qualifiers in emphatic style and now look forward to the County Finals next month.
