Golf: ISGA national scratch handicap golf knockout semi-final

Monday 1 December 2014

Shrewsbury beat Rydal Penrhos (3-0) at Chester Golf Club on Sunday 30th November and win through to the regional final.

The opposition had beaten our B team last month but were no match for our more experienced A team.  The Shrewsbury team was able to put last week's disappointment of a HMC Foursomes defeat to QEGS Blackburn behind them and play to their potential this time around.

In these scratch handicap singles matches, the Rydal Penrhos boys (with golf handicaps 5, 8, 10) gave spirited displays and, when the momentum threatened to turn in their favour, our boys were able to hold off the challenges and were never behind in any match.

This now puts Shrewsbury into the regional final versus Birkdale School, to be played before the end of March 2015.  If the team can win the regional final, they would progress to the ISGA national final to be held at Princes and Royal St George’s on 26 - 27th April 2015.

Well done to the team of:  Ben Oswald (S V - handicap 6) who won 5 and 3; James Walker (Rt LVI - handicap 6) who won 6 and 4; and Captain of Golf, Alex Haspel (Rb UVI - handicap 8) who won 5 and 4.
