In preparation for their expedition to Sulawesi in Indonesia this August with the Biology department, eight Fifth and Sixth Form pupils recently completed their PADI Open Water qualification in the chilly waters of Dosthill Quarry. Please see our Expedition bulletin for more information.
They will put their training to good use on a reef ecology course during which they will be taught how to identify corals, fish and invertebrates before undertaking survey work to help monitor human impacts in an area described as the World's epicentre of marine biodiversity. As well as exploring reefs, the team will dive in mangroves and seagrass beds and learn about threats to the survival of reef ecosystems and management strategies for conservation.
