Issy selected for England Women’s Cricket Academy tour to India

Thursday 2 May 2019

Congratulations to Issy Wong on being selected as one of 15 members of the England Women’s Academy (EWA) for their training camp in India, which took place from 6th to 26th April.

In addition to her School cricket commitments, Issy has also just been selected for the Warwickshire CCC Senior Women’s team, the Bears, where she will be playing alongside her Shrewsbury School Cricket Coach, Gwenan Davies. She also plays women’s club cricket for Berkswell and boys’ and men's cricket for Knowle & Dorridge.

Speaking before Issy set off for India, the Women’s & Girls’ Performance Manager at Warwickshire CCC, Laura MacLeod, said: “It’s great to see Issy win this place with the England Women’s Academy in India. She is a very exciting prospect and is already bowling with pace that could trouble batters at the highest level of the game. Bowling in the subcontinent presents a great challenge to any seam bowler, but we’re confident that Issy can learn a huge amount from this experience and develop the necessary skills to take her further in the game.”

Gwenan Davies is equally warm in her tribute to Issy: "We are very excited as cricket staff at Shrewsbury School to see where Issy's cricket takes her in the next couple of years. She has worked incredibly hard since she arrived at the School three years ago and she has been a brilliant ambassador for the School, especially when it comes to balancing academic commitments and a busy sporting schedule. It will be a pleasure to take the field with her this coming Sunday (5th May) against Sussex, and I can't wait to see her thrive at the top level of the Women's County game."
