The dining hall here at Shrewsbury School saw the latest in our highly popular “Food Files” series. At lunchtime, our cheese supplier, Cheese Cellar brought along a fabulous array of different cheeses for the students and staff to sample. The cheeses were accompanied by a range of chutneys, breads and crackers. The helpful and knowledgeable Cheese Cellar staff was on hand behind the display counter to serve and answer questions about all things cheesy!
Not to be outdone on the other side of the counter, our very own Chefs had prepared home-made tagliatelli and tortellini pasta with Italian breads for the students to sample. Such a wonderful spread in the dining room coupled with the tasty lunchtime offer on the serveries, meant that the students faced the puzzling dilemma of what to choose to eat – the serveries versus the Food File fodder! Most students popped over to the display tables to “graze”, whilst those with heartier appetites (and with the aid of an extra plate!) managed both choices!
The wonderful atmosphere at lunchtime today certainly reminded us of the need to keep injecting some fun into food, and with the students tackling some rather challenging exams this week, we were pleased that we were able to provide some informative yet light relief. The only negative comment we received was from a rather hassled teacher who asked “Where is the wine to go with all of this cheese?” Sorry about that! Perhaps that could be the topic of our next Food File?
