National Schools’ Regatta 2018

Thursday 7 June 2018

Over 1,000 crews took part in this year’s National Schools’ Regatta at Dorney Lake, with 17 RSSBC crews competing in the top racing divisions.

A total of 113 pupils took part over the three days of the event and there were some strong performances across the age groups, but disappointingly no medals to celebrate.

The Friday of the Regatta saw the J14 boys and girls competing in A & B octuples and the J15 girls racing in the coxed four. All the events had a large number of crews competing for honours, so it was encouraging to see three of the crews near the top of their class with two winning the B final.

J14A Octuple: 7th of 26
WJ14A Octuple: 6th of 26
J14B Octuple: 12th of 28
WJ14 B Octuple: 14th of 17
WJ15 A four:  7th of 19

The stiff crosswind conditions on the Saturday made results of the time trial crucial in order to gain the favoured lanes for the semi-finals and finals. Some very close margins separated many of the crews in the time trial, in the Boys’ 1st VIIIs event the times of crews placed 3rd to 8th were separated by 0.9sec after five and a half minutes of racing.

There was some disappointment after narrowly missing out on podium places, but well done to all who raced on producing a fairly strong club performance.

J15 A VIII: 5th of 26
WJ15 A four:  7th of 19
J15 B VIII: 8th of 21
J16 VIII: 9th of 18
1st VIII: 8th of 25
G1st VIII: 11th of 15
2nd VIII: 5th of 10
G2nd VIII: 2nd of 2
3rd VIII: 4th of 8

The Sunday provided the best conditions for racing. Only four crews raced on the final day with the following results:

1st 4-: 8th of 17
1st 4+: 12th of 20
G1st 2-: 18th of 25
J16 4-: 17th of 22
