On Saturday 8th May the Old Salopians beat Old Kimboltians 3-2 in a match Sean Dyche would have been proud of. Congratulations to Ollie Brown and his team
On a tiny grass pitch with strong crosswinds, the match was not one for displaying footballing quality. Salopians went 1-0 up with a lofted through ball over the top to Tom Kelly who won a 50 / 50 tackle with the Kimboltians’ keeper and passed the ball into the net.
Kimboltians replied with a direct free kick to make it 1-1 before Tom Kelly scored again to make it 2-1.
Two minutes before half time, Kimboltians fired in a corner and with the ball flying into the top right hand corner, George Lewis had a Suarez moment (World Cup 2014 vs Ghana) and performed a wonderful save. Kimboltians scored from the spot and Salopians were down to 10 men.
The second half was gritty and determined and with 10 minutes left on the clock, Raul Alexis fired home a header at the back post to make it 3-2.
The next round will be on Saturday 22nd May, again at Merchant Taylors at 3pm with the opponent still to be decided this coming Saturday.
