The OS Basketball lost their game to the Shrewsbury School U18 Basketball 55-51 on Saturday afternoon March 3 at the Shrewsbury Arena in Shrewsbury Town - and none of their big four of Bryan Yick (M 10-15), Michael Pong (M 13-15), Michael Kwan (S 10-15) and Benny Wong (Rt 11-13) were performing very well on the afternoon.
In total, the OS's big four shot a combined for 15-for-35 for the game, with Pong finishing with 19 points, 5 rebounds, and 10 assists, while Kwan had 12 points and 6 rebounds, and Wong & Yick combined for 16 points, 10 rebounds, and 5 assists. Newly recruit Chris Thomas (M 10-15) has a good first match playing as a centre, finishing the game with 3 rebounds and 4 personal fouls, while Billy Chu (O 11-15) and Kevin Jim (I 11-16) came off the bench strongly, combining for 4 points and 2 rebounds.
What's disappointing for OS Basketball though is how they performed during the fourth quarter of the game. They had 5 turnovers in the last 5 minutes and out of the 8 shots which the team took, only two of them were converted for points.
This is such an embarrassing result for the team, as OS has beaten the Shrewsbury U18 basketball twice in the previous years. The OS basketball took the lead for the whole match and it was the last-minute mistakes that cost them the match. Credits should not be taken away from the U18 team though, they played solid defence and had some clutch plays late in the fourth quarter.
The OS Basketball team will play the Shrewsbury U18 this time again next year, aiming to regain their winning streak.
