RAF Section cadets take to the skies

Thursday 3 May 2018

On Wednesday 2nd May six of the RAF Section (CCF) cadets were given the exciting opportunity to fly with the University Air Squadron at RAF Cosford.

We were hosted by 8AEF and after a detailed safety brief were each given a 30-minute flight in a Grob Tutor – the two-seater trainer that the RAF use to train all British military pilots.

Some of these air experience flights took the cadets over Shrewsbury, and an opportunity to see The Schools clearly from the air on such a clear afternoon.

The return to Cosford for the most part included a series of aerobatics - loops, stall turns, barrel rolls amongst others – before landing successfully back at the station.

For the most experienced of our own glider pilots (Tom Brennan (I UVI) and Jack Li (Rt LVI), they were given ample opportunity to take control of the aircraft themselves in flight, and show off their own ability to the instructor pilots.

The next visit is on 13th June, when another eight cadets will be given the chance to experience similar thrills!
