Rosie Parr (EDH LVI) commended by Fitzwilliam College Cambridge

Tuesday 1 May 2012

Rosie Parr May 2012Fitzwilliam College, Cambridge, has recently started to run annual essay competitions for Lower Sixth Formers, and this year's competitions were in Ancient World, Classics, and Land Economy.

Rosie Parr (EDH LVI) chose to compete for the Ancient World prize, and started researching her essay on 'Women in the Ancient World' over the Christmas holiday, completing it during the Lent half term.  Although Rosie did not win the prize itself, her 2,000-word essay evidently impressed the judges, who awarded her a Certificate of Commendation.

Rosie hopes to continue her Classical studies beyond school; her dedication is such that she has enrolled in a two-week crash course in Greek over the summer holidays, as she did not have the opportunity to learn Greek before she started at Shrewsbury last September.

Rosie is intending to enter the national Omnibus Gladstone Competition next term. This is the UK's premier essay prize in Classics, which Shrewsbury has an extraordinary record of success in, culminating in 2011 when both the First and Second Prizes were awarded to Salopians.
