The Boat Club took the 1st and 2nd VIIIs to race at Hammersmith Head on Sunday. The intention had been to take ten crews to race but this was reduced owing to the forecase of strong winds. The winds made the boating conditions challenging but settled as the tide changed to allow for some fast tailwind conditions. The provisional 1st and 2nd VIII line-ups got their first chance to race part of the course that they will be racing on for the Schools' Head on Monday 16th March.
The 1st VIII was entered into the IM2 VIIIs' category and produced a strong performance to win their category and secure 6th overall. The 1st VIII was the third fastest school crew and can be encouraged by beating some strong opposition crews but is firmly focused on trying to overhaul St Paul’s and Westminster who finished 3 seconds and 9 seconds ahead respectively.
The 2nd VIII showed pleasing speed and were the fastest school crew in the IM3 VIIIs' category. They beat some strong other 2nd VIII opposition and will be hoping to build on that result to target a top three position at the Schools' Head.
