The U14 team - consisting of Jacob Rand (R), Charlie Speed (I), Angus Inglis-Jones (Rb) and Rory McKirdy (PH) - covered 3000m in 10'00.1", beating The Grange School into second (10'13.8") and Northwich Rowing Club into third place (10'21.7"). One measure of the emphatic nature of their victory is that their time was quick enough to have beaten no fewer than six of the thirteen U16 teams that had entered!

Having beaten the existing school record to win the Hope-Simpson before Christmas, Jacob was known to be a strong contender in the individual U14 event but he had to push himself very hard against tough opposition from twenty four other schools and clubs to finish third behind oarsmen from Hereford and Durham. In the process of moving up through the field, however, he smashed his own Personal Best, travelling the equivalent of 1168m in 4 minutes.
We were also delighted that two of the girls competing in (and winning) other events in these Championships are due to join our Sixth Form in September, which bodes well for RSSBC Girls' Rowing in the future!
