The 1st VIII and 2nd VIII put out some exceptional performances at Bedford Regatta over the course of the day to win not only their respective categories but also to meet each other in the two-boat final of the top eights’ category of Open Eights, which included 28 entries.
There were no favours given as the two crews fought it out on the Great Ouse, with the 1st VIII coming away victors with a margin of one and a quarter lengths.
There was strong competition in the boys’ and girls’ J14 Octuples event, with 15 and 10 crews entered respectively. Both crews put out impressive performances, winning the first three rounds of their event to make it into the two-boat final. After a long day and tough racing, both crews lost out. However, they can feel confident that they are in a very competitive position heading into the National Schools' Regatta in two weeks.
The J14 boys’ B Octuple and girls’ 1st VIII lost out to the runners-up in their events in the first round.
The J15 boys competed in eights and fours and gained some valuable experience despite not making it into the final rounds.
At Shrewsbury Regatta the remainder of the RSSBC took to the water in ideal conditions and recorded some pleasing results, with wins for the J15 girls’ pair, Women’s coxed quad, J16 boys’ eight in Open Eights, and four from the 3rd eight who won J18 coxed fours.
On Sunday there were numerous small boats out racing over the sprint course, with wins for Louis Nares in the J16 single, the girls’ J15 pair and the boys’ J16 pair.
