Running for Mind

Thursday 13 September 2018

On Sunday 14th October, Chemistry teacher Vicky Kirk and two Shrewsbury School parents, Karen Wilcox and Rachel Tarlton, will be running the Royal Parks Half-Marathon in London to raise funds for the mental health charity Mind.

The Half-Marathon takes in some of the capital's world-famous landmarks on closed roads, and four of London's eight Royal Parks - Hyde Park, Green Park, St James's Park and Kensington Gardens. Over 16,000 runners will take part and complete the 13.1 miles.

Whilst Vicky has run the Shrewsbury Half-Marathon several times with the Shrewsbury School team, it will be a first for both Karen and Rachel, who confess to being somewhat daunted by the prospect!

The ladies met in the Shrewsbury School Ladies' Running Group, who meet every week at 6pm at the Sports Hall. Gradually they have mastered the Shrewsbury Park Run, local 10km races and are now the big one with the Half-Marathon.

They are running to raise money for the charity Mind, which offers support and advice to people with mental health issues as well as raising awareness and promoting understanding. They have a fundraising page and would be very grateful for all donations, large or small.
