Shrewsbury coach nominated for prestigious Player of the Year Award

Alan RichardsonShrewsbury School sports coach Alan Richardson, who has played first class cricket for Warwickshire, Middlesex, England 'A' and now Worcestershire, was nominated last week for the prestigious Natwest PCA Player of the Year Award 2011, but was pipped by Somerset and England's Marcus Trescothick.

Alan, who has assisted Shrewsbury's Cricket Professional Paul Pridgeon over the last 12 months, took an outstanding 73 wickets in the LV County Championship Division One for Worcestershire this season, and was the leading wicket taker in the division. Alan will once again coach Shrewsbury School cricketers this winter, as well as the School 3rd XI football team.

Alan signed a new contract with Worcestershire this season and will combine his winter coaching at School with off-season training at New Road.
