On Tuesday 16th January, Dorit Hasselberg (EDH UVI) and Henry Kennedy (I LVI) were among the 8 remaining musicians who were competing in the penultimate round of this year's Shropshire Concerto Competition. This event gives the opportunity for musicians from schools and colleges all over the county to aspire to the highest level of youth music.
Both Dorit (Clarinet) and Henry (Saxophone) were chosen to go through to the final, in which they will each be performing a concerto with the Shropshire Sinfonia in the Alington Hall on Wednesday 27th March. Dorit will be playing Concerto No. 2 in Eb major Op. 57 by Spohr and Henry will be playing Tableau de Provence by Paule Maurice. The evening will be recorded by BBC Radio Shropshire and will be broadcast in April.
Tickets for the final will be available from the Shropshire Music Service (address below), at a cost of £12, and £7 concessions (senior citizens/under 16’s). Please include your name, address, tel. number/email address plus a stamped addressed envelope. Cheques need to be made payable to ‘SYMPHO’.
