Summer news in brief from the Music Department

Wednesday 12 September 2012

During the holidays, Jacob Owen (Ch V) played with the National Youth Orchestra of Wales (NYO Wales) along with two new entrants this term - Josh Himsworth (Ch 3) and Awen Blandford (EDH LVI). Josh won the award for the most promising young player in the Orchestra, which he has written about separately: NYO Wales Award.

Just after the start of term, Jacob went on to audition for the highly prestigious National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain; he will have to wait several weeks to hear if he has got in, but he felt that the audition had gone as well as it could.

Henry Thomas (Ch IV) has also been playing the trumpet in the National Children's Orchestra of Great Britain, performing amongst other works, Shostakovich's 10th Symphony.  Henry has written an account of his week with the NCO for our website: Henry at the NCO.

Henry Kennedy (I LVI) has been accepted into the Youth Orchestra of the CBSO (City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra) to play clarinet and bass clarinet.

Christopher Hardman (SH 2007-2012) has been accepted into the Halle Youth Orchestra to play clarinet.
