U14 girls' hockey team add another 16 goals to their tally

Friday 14 November 2014

The U14 girls remain unbeaten in School hockey fixtures with an overwhelming 16-0 win over Abbeygate last weekend.  This gives a record of played 8; won 8; goals for 58; goals against 3 - an amazing start for the U14 girls at Shrewsbury.

This positive result followed on from an outstanding performance in the U14 County Cup at Lilleshall National Sports Centre.  Unfortunately for Shrewsbury, the tournament was pushed back from the 5th November to the 22nd October, which meant it fell during half term.  With a high number of girls unavailable, we thought we were going to have to pull out, but the nine who could make it were keen and determined to represent School at county level.

The team played phenomenally well, considering we were two players short on the pitch and had no substitutes, and managed to qualify for the semi-finals by winning two of their group matches.

The semi-final was a hard fought game and the earlier group stages of one hour's play was starting to take its toll on the committed nine.  Shrewsbury just lost out 0-1 in the semi-final and should be extremely proud of their determination and achievement.  Special mention to Rosie Davis, who stood in at short notice and did herself and the School proud.
