Oliver Hope wins NHS 'Valuing Our Volunteers Award'

Tuesday 18 November 2014

Oliver Hope (Ch UVI) has become the first young volunteer to be recognised with a Valuing Our Volunteers Award by the Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust

Oliver is hoping to pursue a career in medicine and began volunteering at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital two years ago, aged 16. He is currently working on Ward 22 Trauma and Orthopaedics in the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital and has also volunteered in other parts of the Trust, including Clinical Audit and the Surgical Assessment Unit.

Julia Clarke, Director of Corporate Governance at the Trust, said Oliver was a very worthy recipient of the Valuing Our Volunteers Award and had "shown great dedication to his role in the last two years". She pointed out that in addition to the weekly work he does in the hospital every Thursday during term time, he has also travelled from his home in Worcestershire during the school holidays to continue to volunteer.

“Volunteers play an important role in our hospitals by supporting our staff both on the frontline and behind the scenes. We appreciate all of their efforts and our monthly Valuing Our Volunteers Award is a regular way of publically highlighting the role they play. I’m delighted Oliver has become our first young volunteer to receive this award.”
