Last week a senior A XV played two matches against opponents very different in class. On Wednesday, the XV enjoyed a 22-17 victory over a competitive Solihull 6th Form College 1st XV.
The squad then took on a very strong Oundle School 1st XV in a match that was always going to ask very significant questions of Shrewsbury's defence. With many talented rugby players starring in the School's football teams this term, the backs were put under particular pressure, with the Oundle back line superior in lines of running and out and out pace. The pack however scrummaged well and kept possession in the loose effectively, when the game was played a little tighter. Oundle scored nine very well crafted tries, but there was no disgrace in a plucky performance against one of the country's premier rugby playing schools.
