Prize Giving 2011 - for home page

Monday 13 June 2011

The annual Prize Giving took place on Friday 10th June in the Ashton Theatre, which was packed with pupils, staff and proud parents and relations.

This year, the 78 prizes were presented by Old Saopian Sir David Barnes C.B.E. (R 1949-1954).

Sir David is the former chairman of Astra Zeneca, and a former deputy chairman of our governors.  He is a Shrewsbury Foundation trustee, and was here just a few weeks ago to lead the 150th Rigg's anniversary celebrations.

Sir David spoke of the qualities that he learned during his own time at Shrewsbury, that have guided him through his life: excellence, honesty and the highest ethical standards.  He talked passionately about the challenge of unlocking the energy and potential of pupils, to give them a source of power to see them through the rest of their lives.

The Headmaster's script conveys the immense depth and breadth of the talent of our current Salopians, describes how they won their awards, and also gives some background to the awards themselves: Prize Giving 2011.
