James Scott (M 2008-2010) and Patrick Lapage (R 2003-2008) both represented GB in the World Under 23 rowing competition in Amsterdam in July.
James, in the coxed four, finished fifth overall. Patrick, stroking the Eight, got a bronze medal. The heat in the eight deserves a mention - GB all but beat the Americans, losing by 0.07s and thus having to yield the favoured lane in the final. In the final itself, rowed from lane 4 in a strong cross tail wind, the disappointment in not beating the Americans (lane 7, calm water, gold) and the Czech Republic (lane 6) was mitigated a bit by the satisfaction of knocking the Germans (lane 5 and normally very strong) into fourth place with a huge mid-race push. All three medal winning crews were sub 5 min 30s, and beat the existing class record time.
