Monday 5 September 2011

During Aug 2011, 12 students attended the annual CCF and Duke of Edinburgh Silver training trip and Gold Assessment Trip in Croatia.  The teams were trained in Sea Kayak skills prior to departure, and completed a 11 day package of training, and assessments.  The groups covered a total of 140kms in total, starting in Dubrovnik, and paddling to the Island of Lopud, Sudjurad and Sipan.  The group have written their own blog: Croatia trip blog.

Kayaking in Croatia 2011

It has been an extremely busy season for the Golds with three different types of expedition: Sea kayaking, Walking and Canoeing.

This year's canoe group undertook a venture along the River Wye.  The training began many months ago with a five day camp in North Wales. The students undertook basic expedition and boat handling training in various North Wales venues.  The following Easter, the same group undertook a four day practice expedition in North Wales along the River Dee.  They also squeezed in a number of pool sessions to perfect their rescue skills.  The Wye Expedition was the culmination of months of hard work.  The team kept a blog as a record of the adventure: Gold trip blog.
