Hockey - Girls

Please also see our Latest Hockey news.

Hockey is a major sport at Shrewsbury with girls excelling at all age groups. The girls play hockey predominately in the Michaelmas Term and usually have between 12 and 18 matches a term on Wednesdays and Saturdays. We play a number of schools including Repton, Moreton Hall, Wrekin College, Denstone College and King’s School Chester.

The girls compete in numerous county, regional and invitational tournaments, including the National 6s Championships.

In the second year that Shrewsbury School became fully co-educational, both the 1st XI and the U16s qualified for the Midlands Regionals.

A second astro-turf facitility was opened in September 2016. This has enabled us not only to schedule more training sessions and matches for our teams but also host hockey festivals and tournaments.

Specialist coaches work closely with all age groups, pushing girls new to the sport as well as developing excellence. An ’Elite Development Squad’ allows players identified with potential to pursue their Hockey to a higher level via a structured Strength and Conditioning Programme and Elite Coaching Sessions.

Forthcoming Hockey fixtures for the current term are displayed below.

More detailed information about each of the fixtures can be found on our Sports Calendar. (Note: Viewing the Calendar either by Week or by Day gives you more information at a glance than the default monthly view.)

If you are following a particular team or teams, you can also select their fixture list from the Hockey Fixtures and Results page, which includes team selections (where you see this blue image ) and location maps for away matches. It is possible to download a team's fixture list onto your personal calendar on your PC or mobile device, which will then be synchronised with the master fixture list whenever your device is connected to the internet.
