Shrewsbury School’s Sports Facilities Department provides an outstanding range of sporting, health and fitness opportunities for all ages.

Based in the School's multi-million pound sports complex, we offer a wide range of activities that make full use of our outstanding facilities, including a 25-metre deck level pool, state-of-the-art fitness suite, Racquets Club offering four squash and four tennis courts, three-court Sports Hall, shooting range, indoor Cricket Centre, elite training Boat House, including ergos and an indoor tank, and an array of excellent grass playing pitches for a number of sports.

The Shrewsbury School Swimming Academy is open to children aged 4 upwards and is delivered by experienced, DBS checked, ASA-qualified instructors. Classes are small and graded by ability as well as being overseen by a dedicated Swimming Co-ordinator.

The Sports Facilities team also operates a range of fun, safe and educational courses and Sport Academies during the school holidays for children aged 7 upwards.

We are delighted to announce the development of the Kingsland Racquets Club offering use of the School’s excellent tennis and squash courts. Members have the ability to book courts online and play in the clubs healthy competitive and social calendar.

    Five-day Lifeguard Course: 30th May - 3rd June 2017 (Gemini Pool)

    Shrewsbury School, in conjunction with The Royal Life Saving Society, are able to offer a five-day intensive Lifeguard course including an assessment day, following the latest (8th Edition) National Pool Lifeguard Qualification.

    Please note that applicants are required to:

    • be aged 16 or over
    • swim 50 metres in 1 minute or less
    • swim 100 metres continuously on their front and then their back
    • tread water in deep water for 30 seconds
    • surface dive to the deepest part of the pool (2 metres)
    • climb out of the pool unaided, without using steps or ladder.

    Course dates and times
    Tuesday 30th May - Saturday 3rd June, 8.30am to 6.30pm (Assessments take place on the morning of Saturday 3rd June.)

Each day will be programmed by Adam Shantry, Cricket Professional at Shrewsbury School, and delivered by a team of ECB qualified coaches.

He has first-hand experience of the pathway from junior cricket to the first class game, having played for Shropshire from U13 to U17 level and then gone on to represent Warwickshire, Northamptonshire and Glamorgan CCC. Now retired from the professional game, he enjoys passing on his knowledge of cricket to the next generation and is undertaking his ECB Level 4 coaching qualification. In addition to his role at Shrewsbury School, he also coaches for Glamorgan CCC.

    Age: 7 - 13-year-old boys and girls

    Summer holiday course for children: Andrew Flintoff Cricket Academy - 7th to 11th August

    Non-residential five-day cricket coaching courses for boys and girls aged 5-7 (Junior Academy) and 8-16 (Senior Academy).  The fun, innovative and age-appropriate coaching is based on the fundamentals that made Freddie Flintoff the great player he is; all coaches are ECB qualified and DBS checked. 

    During the week, an England cricket star visits the Academy here to pass on coaching tips.

    The courses run from 9.30am-4.30pm, but it is possible for children to be dropped off (and entertained) at 8.30am, and picked up at 5.30pm (daily rate £6).

    Shrewsbury Rowing Course - Day Camp: 7th - 11th August

    We are delighted to be running our very popular and successful rowing courses again in August 2017, offering 11-16-year-olds a chance to learn to row or develop their skills in inspirational surroundings.
