Co-Curricular Life

Shrewsbury School crest

“Ever since joining Shrewsbury, I've immersed myself into co-curricular activities and I'm really enjoying the full range of activities the school has to offer.”
Victoria, Upper Sixth Pupil

All pupils are encouraged to participate widely across sport, music, drama and activities, and in providing such a rich tapestry of opportunities you would be hard pressed to find a pupil who hasn’t found their passion!

With outstanding facilities and inspiring staff, pupils are nurtured and encouraged to reach their potential, regardless of ability or aspiration.  Many will come here with passions already formed; others will find a flame lit for the first time.

Developing the much sought-after ‘soft skills’ of leadership, collaboration, resilience and perseverance, we see the co-curricular life of the School as not merely being about enjoyment and participation but as an important mechanism by which our pupils can be equipped to make an impact on the world at large.

It is for this reason that we often refer to the co-curricular life of the School as the ‘second classroom’.

There is a good range of activities, clubs and societies to allow all pupils to find something they can relate to and feel part of

Meet the Deputy Head Co-Curricular

Helen Brown joined Shrewsbury as Director of Drama in 2014 and was appointed as Deputy Head Co-Curricular in 2021. She studied English Language and Literature at Merton College, Oxford.

Having taught in boarding schools for fifteen years, she believes that the boarding environment is uniquely able to offer a holistic experience in which academic study can be enhanced by sport, music, drama and community service.
