Boarding Support for Forces Families

With a rich military heritage and a long-established community of pupils from serving families, we know how important it is for young people to feel safe, supported and truly at home when boarding at Shrewsbury School.

Our houses provide a genuine home-from-home, run by Housemasters and Housemistresses as extensions of their own families and supported by dedicated tutors who know each pupil as an individual. This deeply embedded culture of care and mentoring – recognised nationally through the Oppidan Education Gold Mentoring Award – ensures pupils are known, listened to and cared for, developing confidence, resilience and a strong sense of belonging.

Proudly Supporting Forces Families at Shrewsbury School

Shrewsbury School is extremely proud of its military heritage, which dates back over 470 years. To this day, we continue to be home to a vibrant community of pupils from families of serving military personnel who thrive at Shrewsbury.

Shrewsbury is pleased to support the Continuity of Education Allowance (CEA) Scheme provided by the Ministry of Defence through a highly generous Forces’ Bursary.

This arrangement ensures that parents who are eligible for the CEA are responsible for no more than 10% of the gross full boarding fees, with the remaining amount being covered by Shrewsbury as part of the Forces’ Bursary, supplemented by the financial assistance received from the Continuity of Education Allowance.

Shrewsbury is a school with a rich heritage that instils in all Salopians the values of service, leadership and valour.
