The Shrewsbury Pathway

Shrewsbury School crest

The Shrewsbury Pathway has been designed to give families flexibility, reassurance and confidence as they plan for their child's future.

Whether your child begins their journey within our Family of Schools or joins us directly from another school, our aim is the same: to understand each young person as an individual and ensure that Shrewsbury is the right environment for them to thrive.

The Pathway provides a range of routes into Shrewsbury at 13+, allowing families to choose the approach that best suits their child.

Pupils already attending one of our three prep schools – Packwood, Prestfelde and Terra Nova - benefit from being part of the wider Shrewsbury family from an early age.

During Years 5 and 6, pupils are considered for progression to Shrewsbury through conversations between the schools, alongside a holistic assessment that considers their academic development, interests and character.

In Year 6, successful pupils are offered a guaranteed place at Shrewsbury for Third Form (Year 9), giving families the reassurance of a clear pathway while allowing pupils to focus fully on making the most of their prep school years.

Families who are currently at another school may choose to join one of our three prep schools - Terra Nova, Packwood, Prestfelde or Terra Nova - at Year 7 and become part of the Shrewsbury Family.

As part of this journey, pupils are assessed for progression to Shrewsbury at the same time as they apply to their chosen prep school. Successful candidates receive an offer for a place at Shrewsbury for Third Form (Year 9), providing clarity and confidence for the years ahead.

This pathway allows pupils to enjoy the outstanding opportunities, friendships and experiences offered by our prep schools while preparing naturally for life at Shrewsbury.

Joining Shrewsbury Directly at 13+

Joining Shrewsbury Directly at 13+

Many pupils join Shrewsbury directly from schools across the UK and internationally.

Families can begin the admissions process in Year 6 or Year 7 by sitting the ISEB Common Pre-Test, or pupils can apply in Year 8 by sitting Shrewsbury's own written entrance papers.

Our assessment process is designed to identify not only academic ability, but also curiosity, enthusiasm and the qualities that enable young people to contribute fully to our community.

Applications are also taken for entry into Year 10 and Sixth Form.

A Journey Designed Around Your Child

Whichever route you choose, the Shrewsbury Pathway is about more than securing a place. It is about beginning a relationship with our School and ensuring that every pupil has the opportunity to grow, achieve and flourish.

Our Admissions team is here to guide you through each stage of the journey, answer your questions and help you find the pathway that is right for your child.

We look forward to welcoming you to the Shrewsbury community.
