Shrewsbury School crest

We are keen that Salopians develop a genuine sense of social responsibility whilst at school, and this will remain with them as they go out into the world beyond our gates.

Volunteering is an important feature of a Shrewsbury education with more than 150 students helping in local primary schools, charity shops, care homes and hospitals.

Students take the lead through house-based and whole-school fundraising activities as we support various charitable causes close to home, nationally and internationally. Time is also built into our weekly routines for service and volunteering, with many co-curricular opportunities to contribute to the local community with long-established projects working alongside new ones as the need arises. In many cases, new projects spring from our students' initiative, enthusiasm and commitment.

Salopians Supporting Communities

The video below, created by pupils, shows a snapshot of the work Salopians do in local communities as well as hosting events on-site.

Our Charitable Involvements

Here are just some of the examples of the work Salopians are involved with:

  • Pupils volunteer at a Refugee Homework Club, organise Elderly Tea Parties and Foodbank Christmas Fairs and go on Frailty Ward Christmas visits.
  • Third Formers visit the local Food Bank Plus and The Shewsy as well as carry out conservation work for Shropshire Council and Shropshire Wildlife Trust.
  • Fourth and Fifth Form pupils support sports in Primary Schools including Varsity Events hosted at Shrewsbury.
  • ‘Concert Party’ – 14 students visit care homes, local hospitals and primary schools to play music and sing.
  • Mentoring Kenyan orphans virtually working with Restart Africa.
